About Sister Transistor
Sister Transistor is where the deepest musical passions and inspirations of DJ, producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Jammes Luckett come to life. Focused on feel, energy, story and the celebration of great songwriting, her sets are often a multi-layered collage or a cinematic mosaic that keeps the past and present in constant dialogue. The dance music she creates frequently centers around vintage melodic sounds from 1940s to 1980s. Genres like classic pop, rock, soul, jazz, ye-ye, funk, and disco are given new danceable twists through mashups and transitions with the seemingly incompatible. She often works in or builds upon contemporary orchestral, grunge, punk, metal, breakbeat, trip hop, hip hop, new wave, and electronic music. She also sprinkles in her own eclectic original productions. Audiences feel equally at home whether they're after familiar favorites or ready to discover the unexpected.
Like many who came of age making mixtapes, Luckett knows how to read what someone already loves and build something new around it. From recognizable hits to obscure B-sides, she uses music to tell stories, move people, and take listeners to new places, from one moment to the next, and never play the obvious record the obvious way. DJing lets her experiment across the whole history of recorded sound, and hear her own catalogue in reimagined arrangements that surpass the limitations of instrumentation. The result is a fun, shared experience with the excitement of not quite knowing what comes next.
Sister Transistor is currently based in the New York City area, but ready to go wherever people are hungry for melodies as strong as the beats. Whether it's a club, festival, party, private event, or unconventional wedding, she's ready to meet the room's energy while delivering moments people remember after the last song.
Meet Jammes LuckettDJ | Producer | Songwriter | Multi-instrumentalist
Sister Transistor began as one of my solo bands, an outlet for original, vintage-inspired songwriting, most notably on the critically-acclaimed 2018 album Garagio. I'm now expanding it to include public DJ performances. I've been developing DJ skills in my own studio for a number of years and have spent much of my life and career otherwise immersed in music composition, curation, and performance. Along the way, I've developed a reputation for seamlessly weaving together radically different inspirations into distinctive, emotional, and intriguing sounds.
My DJ sets draw directly on the same skills I've spent a career developing as a composer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. My work has always involved bridging unexpected relationships between very different kinds of music and building cohesive experiences from them. As the creative force behind alternative rock band Poperratic and through my work writing songs, scores, and sound design for film and television, I've spent decades thinking about music in terms of mood, pacing, juxtaposition, and story. I move between songs, genres, and eras in ways that create connections that may not be immediately obvious, but feel right when they happen. This is now at the heart of the fun in Sister Transistor's sets.
My credits include the Lionsgate feature MAY, MGM/UA/Sony's THE WOODS, Showtime Networks' MASTERS OF HORROR, and the theme song for the animated feature THE WEIRD KIDZ. Some of my original works are administered by Sony Music Publishing and Universal Music Group, with additional sync placements on productions from MTV, Bravo, and Showtime. On several feature films, I also served as music supervisor, selecting other artists' music and sequencing it scene by scene.
Over the years, I've also contributed to a number of independent radio stations and podcasts as a programmer and presenter. Most frequently, I created eclectic programming, specials, bumpers, and theme music for Freekradio, which broadcast from Los Angeles and Austin.
A native Midwesterner who was based in Los Angeles for many years, I performed my original music at venues including The Whiskey-a-Go-Go, The Coconut Teaser, The Dizzy Debbie, The Room, Al's Bar, and Mr. T's Bowl, as well as at the International Pop Overthrow Music Festival.
In 2022, I toured Europe as a session and touring player with AJ Lambert, including performances at Glastonbury and Best Kept Secret. Soundtrack labels La-La Land Records and Terror Vision Records have also commissioned releases of retrospectives of my early work, including the MAY soundtrack double-vinyl set, released as an official Record Store Day title in 2022.
Now, Sister Transistor weaves all parts of my musical story together. Behind the decks, I'm offering audiences much more than playlists and predictable transitions — an outlet for versatile original songwriting and composition, alongside an ongoing homage to the music that inspired and shaped it. My mixes unfold in ways that take listeners somewhere new every time. This is just the beginning, and you're invited to come along for the ride!
